ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER

Position Purpose: Motivated, organized, hard-working professional sought as a key member of the City’s management team.  Performs highly responsible administrative work related to a wide range of municipal functions, under general direction of the City Manager in a full-service City.

Experience Required: Masters Degree in Public Administration and demonstrated increasingly responsible related local government experience. Preference is given for experience as Assistant City Manager or equivalent position in a smaller organization or an Assistant to the City Manager or Management Assistant in a City Manager’s Office in a larger organization.

ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY          (Full-Time Exempt)      
$68,640.00 - $109,158.40 DOQ Annually

The Assistant City Attorney represents the municipality and provides legal advice and support to elected officials, board members, and City staff. Responsibilities include drafting ordinances, contracts, and other legal documents; conducting legal and policy research; and representing the City in court. The position responds to legal issues that arise in all aspects of municipal government services and functions.  The Assistant City Attorney reports to the City Attorney.   

Minimum Qualifications:  Juris doctorate from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in the State of Kansas; preference for a candidate with a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible legal experience in municipal law or relevant area, such as construction, contracts, employment, land use, and constitutional law.  Ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, analytical, computer, and writing skills and have the ability to work independently and within a team. DEVELOPMENT OFFICER    (Regular Full-Time - Exempt)  
$1490.40 - $2357.60 Bi-Weekly

Planning, execution, and evaluation of Flint Hills Discovery Center fundraising and related programs and activities, including membership programs, contributed income, research, capacity, and prospect building strategies.  Primary contact and support for Friends of the Flint Hills Discovery Center, Capital Campaign, fund drives, and donor recognition/stewardship. The Development Officer is an integral leadership team member.

Requirements: Good communication and error-free writing to include correspondence, publications, and an extensive array of written materials. Bachelor Degree and four years of previous development experience; demonstrated experience/success in individual, corporate, or foundation fundraising preferred; must be a creative independent thinker with both confidence and ethics.

LEAD TEACHER           (Regular Full-Time)          
Starting Salary:  $12.26 – $13.49/hr DOQ

The Lead Teacher position contributes to the mission of Sunset Zoo by providing a safe environment and developmentally age-appropriate activities for Sunset Zoo’s nature-based early childhood program. The Lead Teacher develops and implements nature-based curriculum for two and a half to school-aged children. This position develops and maintains positive relationships with families whose children are enrolled in the program, serving as the point-of-contact for all program inquiries; responsible for ensuring program operates in accordance with all licensing standards, policies, and procedures. Develop curriculum; create positive learning environments; foster child development; manage program partnerships; communicate in English language, oral and written, using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling; animal knowledge and excellent communication to effectively guide and represent the program on behalf of Sunset Zoo.

Maintain licensing requirements of the pre-school daycare program as overseen by the Riley County Health Department and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Maintain files on each child enrolled to ensure compliance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations; assist the Curator of Education in scheduling of staff. Requires valid driver’s license.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN      (Temporary Full-Time) 
Starting Salary: $14.87/hr

Position Purpose: Contributes to public health and sanitation by monitoring and maintaining the sanitary sewer collection system; works in tandem with water distribution system crews installing and maintaining potable water distribution system; participation in winter snow removal activities. High School graduate or equivalent, plus experience in utility maintenance or construction. Work in all weather conditions.

Special Requirement:  Must have/maintain a valid driver's license; valid Kansas CDL license within 90 days of employment.  Must comply with departmental/work group residency requirement of living within a 25 mile radius of the shop.

SPECIAL POPULATIONS INSTRUCTORS

PROGRAM ASSISTANT (SUNSET ZOO)                 
Starting Salary:  $7.25/hr (Seasonal)

Position Responsibilities:  Facilitate a variety of high quality, revenue generating educational programs such as birthday parties, campouts, classes, and clubs, as well as live animal programs at Sunset Zoo. Assists with supervision and training of volunteers. Experience Required: High school graduate or equivalent required; plus background knowledge of zoos, animals, and current education practices vital. Excellent public speaking skill and ability to adapt to a variety of audiences and volunteer needs required. Must be able to work with little supervision. Position schedule very versatile, working one to 30 hours per week, depending on staffing needs and personal schedule.
Special Requirement:  Valid driver’s license.
