Mercy Wild Run
Saturday, May 2, First Races Begin at 8:00 am
Sunset Zoo, 2333 Oak Street


Go Wild with one of the first races of the season, the Mercy Wild Run, Saturday, May 2!  This event features a 10K and 5K that beginners and seasoned runners will enjoy.   Sign your little cubs, ages 4 - 10 years, up for the Kid's Fun Run which will take them around the Zoo. 

Race Day registration begins at 6:30 am at the Sunset Zoo main entrance and will close at 7:30 am.  The top male and female 10K and 5K finishers will receive trophies.  All Kid's Fun Run participants will be awarded race ribbons.  The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 9:30 am.  Come outside & play!
New Zoo Explorer Training Offered in May! 
May 26, 27, 28, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm each day

Are you looking for meaningful ways to connect your teen with summer leadership and volunteer opportunities?  Sunset Zoo is offering a new spring training session for teens ages 14 - 17 who are interested Sunset Zoo’s Explorer post.  We will host an intensive three-day training session May 26, 27, and 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Teens interested in becoming Sunset Zoo Explorers must attend all three days of training.

 

Volunteering at Sunset Zoo allows teens the opportunity to give back to their community, get first-hand experience working with animals, mentor youth by helping with education programs, build public speaking experience through various other activities, and learn just what it takes to work in a Zoo.

New Sloth Bear Cubs at Sunset Zoo 
Born in January

Sunset Zoo's sloth bear pair recently welcomed two new cubs to the family.  The cubs, born in January, have just begun exploring their outside holding area.  Be sure to run by the Zoo's Asian Trail often to see if mom and the cubs are enjoying the sunshine.
Gift Shop & Concession Stand to Open During the Weekday Beginning Friday, May 22

As area school districts' summer vacations begin, Sunset Zoo's Gift Shop and Concession Stand swing into full gear-open seven days a week!  You'll enjoy the changes that Baskin Robbins & Vista have made to the Concession Stand this season.  Your Zoo Gift Shop has been re-painted and re-stocked.  You'll find organic tees, conservation-themed hoodies, new toys, and more stuffed critters than before!  Visit Sunset Zoo's Gift Shop and Concession Stand during the weekends now.  Both open by 11:00 am and close at 4:30 pm.
